2001 Steel Bridge Regional Competition

(held April 27-28 at United States Military Academy in West Point, New York)

Craig Ponte (far right), Greg Sommer, and Jeffrey Wisniewski (back) take apart the bridge after the practice run.

Dr. Lui looks on while the bridge is being disassembled.

Jerry Baxter (front right) investigates a joint.

The team discusses while the judges look over the completed bridge.

The load is applied on midspan while the judges look on.

The team now applies the required load on the overhang span.

A view of the bridge under the prescribed loads -- 2000 lb. at midspan and 500 lb. on the overhang.

As Greg attaches the arch, Jeffrey reaches for a bolt to connect a tension rod.

The bridge is being judged for aesthetics.
