Many successful tips were discussed on Thursday in preparation for the Career Fair. The tips are outlined below:

  • First Impressions are extremely important. They include your communication with recruiters and your appearance (meaning dressing well).
  • Research the company. Know the products they produce, their competitors, stock value, etc.
  • Have the ability to sell yourself in 30 seconds. The ability to talk about your accomplishments, activities and skills to impress the recruiter in 30 seconds.

Coverletters should include an introduction, body and conclusion. Many of the topics written in coverletters should include your roles in organizations and project outcomes. Finally, include a thank you at the end in closing.

The Career Center has a Mentor program, in which current students can get in touch with SU alumni. These mentors are a resource when finding an internship or provide answers to any questions about a certain job or industries. Another resource,is www.careersearch.net, fill out information if you are a new user and the referal code is orange04. It outlines jobs and plenty of information on a particular market.

If you are looking for information about a certain job or industry, the Occupational Outlook Handbook is also a good source. The goverment publishes facts about the current and future state of that industry. It could be found in the web, performing a web search.
