Syracuse History

In 1980, a group of students brought NSBE to the Syracuse Campus. Starting with only six members, NSBESU has grown to be the most active student organization on campus. The Syracuse University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers was established during 1980 by Darryl Dunston et al. After establishing this chapter, these dynamic men and women pursued the first goal of NSBE, which is to recruit the under represented technical student. They achieved this goal by posting fliers, hosting meetings, and most importantly exhibiting a personable, friendly nature that encouraged people to approach them. As the membership grew, they organized workshops and presentations that helped increase retention and successful graduation of the membership.
