STRUCTURES

11/01/04 – Venno wrote up a more detailed excel chart with a graph showing the deflection vs. weight. Check it out here.

10/30/04 – Composite wing with fiberglass at 90° has been tested. Results can be found by clicking here

10/29/04 – Click here to see the procedure we use to structurally test the wings by adding a uniform load on them.

10/28/04 – Balsa sheet wing structural tests completed. Results can be found by clicking here.

PROPULSIONS

10/30/04 – Preliminary deadlines for use in Gantt chart can be found here

10/29/04 – Friday afternoon meetng minutes from Mark D.

Hey kids, Today Dave and I took an inventory of the propulsions
items in the DBF room. Our count of said items are
attached in the spreadsheet. From these counts we
have to determine what we need to order. As of now we
have a meeting planned for Wednesday at 7:30p. If
this does not work for anyone please let me know. We also calculated the coefficient of friction for the
test stand and came up with a value of .042. I will
go over how this number was derived in the meeting. Its definitely not complicated, but I want to show
everyone just to make sure everyone agrees with the
method. If there had to be research completed please
try to bring it with you for Wednesday. (Patrick, you
don't have to ask Prof. Dannenhoffer about the angular
velocity and torque quesiton, it will be irrelevant to
our tests as you had stated, thanks.) If you have any
questions, let me know, and if Wednesday doesn't work,
also let me know. I could still use some of your
screen names also. Thats it. Thanks everyone.
-Mark

10/28/04 – Meeting minutes from Mark D.

Hey all, First off I'd like to thank Patrick for doing a wonderful job on the engine test stand. It is definitely going to be a huge asset for the propulsions team and DBF as a whole. Here's a breakdown of what people are going to be doing the next week in research.
Mark - Gant Chart, Discussion with team leaders on already completed research, and discussion with Prof. Dannenhoffer on directions and tasks the propulsions team should have
Patrick - Check out the Graupner Motor website, hopefully decifer it better than I could, http://www.graupner.de/englisch/index.asp
Jason - Research dynamometers, pricing, would one be useful for the propulsions team, how reliable
Dave - in charge of the inventory of propulsions items in the DBF room, will be responsible for when need to order new materials
Thanks to those who attended the meeting. There will be another meeting this Friday at 4:30p in the DBF room to check out what kind of equipment we have to work with for testing. Counting and organizing motors, batteries, and props will be the primary goal of this meeting. If you cannot make it please let me know.
And one last quick item. The DBF webiste is up. I definitely recommend checking it out as it will have information and updates pertaining to the propulsions group as well as the other groups. If you have ideas that pertain to another group do not hesitate to give them your input, rational ideas will not be dismissed without proper consideration.

10/26/04 – Meeting this week!

From Mark D’Aprile:

Hey All, There will be a propulsions meeting at 5pm on
Wednesday in Link 201? (meaning whichever room is the
computer room on the second floor of Link Hall). This
is an organizational meeting to inform everyone our
goals as the propulsions group. If you cannot make
this meeting or have no interest in being a member of
the propulsions group please let me know. It makes me
life a lot easier if I know ahead of time if no one is
going to attend a meeting. Actually, if you can
attend also let me know. Thank you in advance for
your response. I hope to see you all Wednesday.
-Mark
