Wednesday, September 17, 2008
JPMorgan Chase & Co. opens its 2008 Fall Speaker Series with intellectual property lawyer Andrew Cadel on Thursday, September 25 in Heroy Geology Building. The event, which is open to the campus community, begins at 5 p.m. with a reception in the Heroy Lobby, followed by Cadel’s presentation, which begins at 5:45 p.m.
Cadel is a managing director and chief intellectual property counsel at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he is responsible for patents and other intellectual property and technology law matters. Cadel has been active in the current patent reform efforts, including testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the subject.
Prior to joining JPMorgan Chase in 1999, Cadel was a senior attorney at IBM and handled legal coverage for the financial services sector and the City of New York. Cadel also worked as a corporate associate for Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison from 1994 to 1997, focusing on cases involving IP and technology issues for public and private securities offerings. He also served as a litigator focusing on trade secret and copyright disputes for Weil, Gotshal and Manges.
Cadel earned a Juris Doctor at the University of Virginia School of Law in 1992 and a Bachelor of Art degree from Columbia College in 1989.
While on campus, Cadel will also meet with SU College of Law students and researchers at SU’s New Technology Law Center. He will also meet in smaller break-out sessions with faculty and students from a variety of schools on campus.
“The speaker series brings to campus industry leaders in such areas as IT governance, infrastructure management, human resources, law, and finance,” says School of Information Studies Professor David Dischiave, who is working with JPMorgan Chase staff to implement the speaker series. “These industry experts provide our students with a wonderful opportunity to interact with practitioners and to network with future employers. It also allows faculty members to gather input from professionals so they can incorporate changes into the curriculum to better meet the current and future needs of industry.”
The next speaker in the series will be Larry O’Donnell, human resources executive, in
Mumbai, India, on Wednesday, October 1.
