Prof. Higuchi performs experimental fluid dynamics and aerodynamics research, with a concentration on bluff-body aerodynamics and flow visualization techniques. Prof. Higuchi's research on bluff-body aerodynamics is motivated by a desire to understand and control the complex, three-dimensional, time-dependent motions in these wake flows. Research techniques include laser Doppler velocimetry, stereo and time-resolved particle image velocimetry, and full-field flow visualization. He also conducts experiment in Japan using the Magnetic Suspension Balance System at Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Currently he is contributing to the indoor human environmental issues with his expertise on modern unsteady flow field and particle measurement techniques. His group is working on the particle resuspension due to walking and on control of the microenvironment near human heads. Prof. Higuchi also has a strong research interest in the use of multi-media computer technology to complement undergraduate engineering education. Professor Higuchi collaborates closely with groups at the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University, Japan concerning Advanced Fluid Information and heads their liaison office at Syracuse University.
